– Pete: not happy news, but an important remembrance of the victims of 9/11. Dollars for PEACE.
– Jeffrey: happy about spending 1.5 weeks with grandkids and family.
– Pam: a top agent of hers just sold her first >$1M property. Wow!
– John C.: all Board member seats got filled, except one. And Kathleen volunteered to represent our Club at the Rotary Conference this weekend.

Prez John Cottle awards Jerry Karabensh the first Rotarian of the Month prize.
President John called Jerry Karabensh up to the podium, and surprised him with the first official Rotarian of the Month award! Jerry received a very arty egg pin in appreciation of creating our first Rotary Park event, the Easter egg hunt. Great work, Jerry!

– Julie Masterson (wife of our late Judge Bill Masterson) broke her arm. More healing thoughts, please.
– Susan Weaver is happily settled in Maine, where you can buy a whole glass of wine in a nice restaurant for $5! Wilma shared some lovely photos of Susan.

Dean Watson presented a Rotary Foundation moment, and reminded us to be sure we meet our Every Rotarian Every Year goal of donations. Your donations may go to the Foundation’s general fund, or may be specified for End Polio Now. Dean shared three videos to remind us of what the Foundation is accomplishing. Very worthy causes, to be sure!

Speaker Barbara Barkovich shares Mendocino Music Festival brochures and news.
Today’s Program:
Pam Hudson introduced our speaker for today, Barbara Barkovich of the Mendocino Music Festival. Pam relayed a story that the two of them just figured out today that it was Barbara who rescued Pam’s young family many years ago when their car broke down on Hwy 128! Gotta love a small community!
Barbara brought us up to date on the upcoming 28th season of the Mendocino Music Festival, to be held july 12 – 26, 2014. Among the highlights:
– Our very own Pam Hudson is sponsoring Big Band night this year, and Harvest Market is the concession tent sponsor.
– Federica von Stade, the famous opera singer, will perform!
– Bach-fest is a special event this year, with Back & Beer as a special-special event!
– “We need the arts to lift our hearts.” (Great quote from Barbara.)
– New this year, you’ll be able to buy concert tickets at the venue.
– Behind the scenes: their new “patron manager” software from Salesforce allows ticket buyers to pick seats and buy tix online. Now more than 80% of their tickets are sold online!
– Volunteer sign-up event is happening this Saturday, May 17, at 10:00 a.m. at the Mendocino Community Center. The event relies on several hundred volunteers each year.
– Next year, there will be a Music Festival event at the Exploratorium in San Francisco. Check it out!
Raffle winners – we have reinstated the card game, and this week’s pot was $25. Neither John Innes nor Bruce Lewis drew the winning card, so stay tuned for next week!
