March 20 Meeting: Lindsey Shields, status of the Mendocino Art Center
At the March 13 meeting, Richard Strom of Visit Mendocino, the county’s promotional arm, spoke about activities underway to bring more tourists to Mendocino and the County in general. Among them was the sponsorship in San Francisco of  Drag Queens on Ice show to attract the attention 0f the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transexual community.

In addition, Visit Mendocino’s PR agency issues news releases on events such as the Crab and Wine Festival, hosts journalists and uses its website, VisitMendocino.com, to attract visitors. Visit Mendocino is funded by a transient occupancy tax (TOT), added to lodging bills, with matching funds from the County of Mendocino.

Upcoming Rotary events: Easter Egg hunt to draw attention to Rotary Park as a place for community activities, and Casino Night, a fundraiser in its second year (April 12).
